The Nigerian Army has confirmed that an explosion and fire outbreak at Ilese Barracks, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, has been successfully contained.
According to Lt. Col. Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, the incident occurred early on August 14, 2025, within a storage building of the 42nd Engineers Brigade Counter-Improvised Explosive Device Squadron.
The explosion led to a minor fire, which was quickly controlled thanks to the swift response from the 12 Field Engineer Regiment and the Ijebu-Ode Fire Service. Anele stated, “No lives were lost and no injuries were sustained during the incident.”
The Army is currently conducting a detailed assessment to evaluate material damage and has urged local residents to remain calm. A thorough investigation is underway to determine the cause of the explosion and prevent future occurrences.
Anele emphasized, “The Nigerian Army, in collaboration with relevant agencies, is committed to ensuring safety and security in the area.”
