In a dramatic turn of events, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has publicly challenged Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed over his recent verbal attacks on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

A  statement, released on January 29, by Dogara reveals a shocking narrative of financial support that Wike extended to Mohammed during his campaign, raising questions about loyalty and gratitude within the political landscape.

Dogara expressed astonishment at Mohammed’s criticisms of Wike, stating that it was Wike who played a pivotal role in financing Mohammed’s successful governorship campaign. He recounted how, despite being a former minister with no funds of his own, Wike took control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary process to ensure Mohammed emerged as the party’s candidate.

In his statement titled “Let the truth be told,” Dogara detailed how Wike not only provided financial backing but also facilitated logistics crucial for Mohammed’s campaign. “Wike bore all expenses for the exercise,” Dogara asserted, emphasizing the extent of Wike’s contributions during the primaries and subsequent election.

The tension between Wike and Mohammed escalated recently, with accusations flying back and forth. Mohammed has labeled Wike a “transactional politician” driven by self-interest, and he has urged Wike to resign from the PDP and join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

However, Dogara defended Wike, stating that the attacks from Mohammed reflect ingratitude. “Given how Wike helped Mohammed in the past, the Bauchi governor’s attack on Wike smacks of ingratitude and betrayal,” he said. Dogara recounted incidents where Wike provided critical support, including organizing a private jet to transport key personnel for the PDP primaries and providing cash assistance when Mohammed found himself financially strapped during the campaign.

In a further revelation, Dogara shared an encounter at Wike’s residence where Wike confronted Mohammed about past grievances. During this confrontation, Mohammed admitted to his previous mistakes and sought forgiveness from Wike.

Dogara concluded his statement by highlighting Mohammed’s pattern of betrayal, noting that many political figures have suffered similar fates at his hands. “Time will not permit me to list those Bala has betrayed,” he remarked, indicating a deeper issue of loyalty within the ranks of the PDP.

As the political drama unfolds, the public is left to ponder the implications of these revelations on the relationships among key figures in Nigerian politics. With accusations of betrayal and financial dependency hanging in the air, the future of both Wike and Mohammed remains uncertain as they navigate these turbulent waters.
