In a significant political development, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, alongside former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, has announced their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This decision was revealed on April 23, 2025, during a meeting in Asaba that lasted over six hours, as confirmed by Senator James Manager.
Manager stated that the entire PDP membership in Delta has agreed to the move, citing the need to leave a “sinking boat.” He emphasized that this shift aims to foster development and enhance security in the state.
The Delta State Commissioner for Information, Aniagwu Charles, reiterated the collective decision of party leaders and hinted at a formal public declaration scheduled for the following Monday. He described the current state of the PDP as akin to “palm wine whose taste has changed,” stressing the need for a new direction to benefit the people of Delta.
