A 29-year-old Islamic teacher, Abdulrahman Bello, has been arrested in connection with the murder of Yetunde Lawal, a final-year student at Kwara State College of Education.
In a video that surfaced online, Bello denied any wrongdoing, claiming he was a “victim of circumstance” and that Yetunde was his girlfriend. He stated that she had returned from an event feeling hungry, and when he went to buy her food, he returned to find her gasping for breath.
According to Bello, Yetunde had previously told him she was asthmatic. Instead of seeking help, he admitted to dismembering her body and dumping the remains at a public refuse site, claiming he panicked and did not know what else to do.
Yetunde was reported missing on February 11 after she failed to return home. Her remains were later discovered at Bello’s residence, along with fetish items, raising suspicions that this may not have been his first crime.
Authorities have launched a full investigation into the case.
