The Port Harcourt Refinery is finally scheduled to begin production after several delays.

According to checks, as of October 2024, the Port Harcourt Refinery had missed seven dates for starting production.

The refinery’s operational start date was set by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) on several occasions, including in March, August, and September 2024, but none of these dates were met.

However, in a message from spokesperson of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Olufemi Soneye, on Tuesday.  the NNPC said: “Today marks a monumental achievement for Nigeria as the Port Harcourt Refinery officially commences crude oil processing. This groundbreaking milestone signifies a new era of energy independence and economic growth for our nation.

“Hearty congratulations to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the NNPC Board, and the exceptional leadership of GCEO Mele Kyari for their unwavering commitment to this transformative project. Together, we are reshaping Nigeria’s energy future!”

He noted that the Refinery is processing 60,000 barrels per day of crude.

The Port Harcourt refinery has a combined 250,000 barrels per day capacity.
