Lagos socialite Emeka Okonkwo Daniel, popularly known as E-Money, has been arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged abuse of the Nigerian currency.

According to sources within the commission, E-Money was taken into custody on Monday night at his residence in the Omole area of Lagos. He is accused of spraying United States dollars at a public event—an act that violates Nigeria’s Foreign Exchange Act.

A source disclosed, “He was arrested for Naira abuse and defacing foreign currencies, particularly for spraying U.S. dollars, which contravenes the Foreign Exchange regulations.”

The EFCC has reportedly commenced preliminary investigations, with plans to charge E-Money to court upon conclusion of inquiries. Another source confirmed that the socialite is being flown to Abuja for further questioning.

EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, declined to comment on the arrest when contacted.

E-Money, known for his flamboyant lifestyle, now joins a growing list of public figures under scrutiny for currency-related offences.
