Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has promised that the interests of the Yoruba people will be a top priority in his administration if he is elected President in 2027. In a statement released on Thursday, he addressed concerns that his presidency might lead to Hausa/Fulani domination over other ethnic groups.
Atiku emphasized his deep ties to the Yoruba community, citing his marriage to a Yoruba woman and his familial connections. He stated, “The entire Yoruba stock is my larger extended family and in-laws,” and assured that the Yoruba would hold a significant place in his policymaking.
He highlighted his longstanding relationships with the Yoruba people, noting that his first marriage to Titi, an Ijesha-born Yoruba woman, has resulted in four Yoruba children. Atiku described his wife as his “Jewel of Inestimable Value” and expressed his love and commitment to his family.
The former Vice President also characterized himself as a “highly detribalised person,” capable of connecting with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Atiku, who was the runner-up in the last presidential election, is positioning himself to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 election.
