An Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ogbon-Inu Taiwo Popoola, has died while on active duty at the Ebonyi State Police Command after collapsing during a management meeting in Abakaliki.

The incident occurred on Wednesday morning at the office of the Commissioner of Police, where senior officers had gathered for an official meeting. According to sources within the command, ACP Popoola suddenly developed breathing difficulties and began gasping for air while the meeting was ongoing.

He was immediately rushed to the Police Medical Centre located within the command headquarters, where medical personnel administered emergency care. Despite prompt intervention, efforts to revive him were unsuccessful, and doctors later confirmed his death.

Preliminary medical assessments indicated that the senior officer died from cardiac arrest linked to hypertensive heart disease.

Until his death, ACP Popoola served as the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Intelligence Department, a critical unit within the command.

His remains have been deposited at the mortuary of the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki.

The Nigeria Police Force described the late officer as a dedicated and professional officer who served the country diligently throughout his career. The Ebonyi State Police Command has since expressed condolences to his family, colleagues, and loved ones.
