Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, has criticized the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, asserting that its members are united solely by their animosity towards the president rather than any coherent ideology. His remarks came after coalition leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, officially announced the ADC as their platform for the 2027 elections, aiming to unseat Tinubu.
In a statement shared on his X handle, Onanuga labeled the coalition as a group of “desperados” driven by personal ambition rather than genuine concern for the Nigerian populace. He highlighted that many of the coalition’s members previously belonged to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and had left or been expelled for various reasons. Among those he mentioned were former ministers Rotimi Amaechi, Abubakar Malami, and Hadi Sirika, all of whom he claimed were seeking political relevance rather than serving the public good.
Onanuga cautioned Nigerians to be wary of the coalition, arguing that a political party without a clear agenda or ideology poses a risk to the country’s future. He stated, “These politicians are hungry for power, not for the benefit of Nigerians but for themselves,” emphasizing that their desperation could lead to instability within the coalition.
He concluded by predicting that the ADC coalition would soon unravel due to the conflicting ambitions of its members, further asserting that their unity is solely based on their shared disdain for President Tinubu.
