A northern-based organisation, the Northern Progressive Youth Vanguard (NPYV), has distanced itself from calls demanding the impeachment of Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah over alleged developments within the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF).

In a statement issued in Abuja, the group described the impeachment campaign reportedly initiated by the Arewa Youth Assembly as politically motivated and unrepresentative of northern youths.

The statement, signed by NPYV Chairman Alhaji Shehu Usman Jubrin, accused unnamed political actors of hiding behind youth groups to pursue personal political interests against the two governors.

According to the group, northern youths were never consulted regarding the alleged crisis within the PGF and should not be drawn into partisan political disputes involving governors from other regions.

The organisation stressed that issues affecting northern youths include insecurity, poverty, unemployment and insurgency, not internal disagreements within political structures such as the Progressive Governors Forum.

The statement added that the PGF is an internal platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and possesses its own mechanisms for resolving disputes, making calls for impeachment unnecessary and misplaced.

The group further urged Nigerians to disregard what it described as statements from “faceless” groups allegedly being used by politicians to promote narrow interests.

“Nigerians should count Arewa youths out of any impeachment call,” the statement said, insisting that northern youths should not be used as tools in political battles unrelated to the region’s core challenges.

The development follows reports of internal disagreements within the Progressive Governors Forum, which have generated reactions from political groups and stakeholders across the country.
