NiMet Predicts Three-Day Nationwide Thunderstorms, Heavy Rain

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast widespread thunderstorms and rainfall across the country from June 16 to June 18, 2025.

According to NiMet’s three-day weather outlook, early morning thunderstorms are expected in northern states, including Kaduna, Adamawa, and Taraba on Monday. Later, heavier rainfall and storms may affect Borno, Zamfara, Bauchi, Kano, Jigawa, Kebbi, and Katsina.

In the North-Central region, morning showers are likely in the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Kwara, Plateau, Kogi, Benue, and Nasarawa, with thunderstorms anticipated later in the day.

Southern states such as Ebonyi, Abia, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ogun, Rivers, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River are expected to experience morning rainfall, with more widespread rain in the afternoon and evening across Enugu, Imo, Anambra, Edo, Delta, and other areas.

On Tuesday, a similar weather pattern is predicted, with early morning storms in parts of Kebbi, Kaduna, Adamawa, Bauchi, and Zamfara. The North-Central zone will see early rains in the FCT, Plateau, and Nasarawa, while Kogi, Niger, and Benue may experience thunderstorms in the evening.

The southern region will also see rain in Ogun, Ondo, Cross River, Rivers, and Lagos in the morning, with additional rainfall expected by evening in Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom.

By Wednesday, early morning thunderstorms will hit parts of Kebbi, Zamfara, Bauchi, Adamawa, and Taraba, with more showers anticipated in the afternoon in Gombe and Jigawa.
