South Korea’s Constitutional Court has reinstated Prime Minister Han Duck-soo as acting president, dismissing his impeachment on Monday. Han stepped into the role after President Yoon Suk Yeol was suspended for declaring martial law, which ignited a complex political crisis in the country.

The court ruled five-to-one against Han’s impeachment, stating that his actions did not constitute a betrayal of public trust. This decision allows Han to resume his duties immediately and emphasizes the need for unity in a politically polarized environment.

Han expressed gratitude for the court’s ruling, stressing the importance of moving forward as a nation. The ruling comes amid anticipation for a decision regarding President Yoon’s impeachment, which has yet to be announced, marking a significant delay in the court’s deliberations.

Opposition leader Lee Jae-myung urged the court to expedite its ruling on Yoon’s case, highlighting the impact of the ongoing political turmoil on public confidence and the economy. Meanwhile, supporters of Yoon welcomed Han’s reinstatement, calling for apologies from those who initiated the impeachment process.
