Samuel Anyanwu, the embattled National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has accused top party leaders of targeting him simply because of his close ties with Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike.
Speaking in an explosive interview, Anyanwu claimed that his opponents within the party were waging a proxy war against him, using internal disputes as a smokescreen to attack Wike through him. His allegations come just days after the Supreme Court reinstated him, overturning an earlier judgment that had removed him from office.
Addressing threats of mass defection if he remains National Secretary, Anyanwu dismissed them as mere speculation, asserting that he played a pivotal role in securing the nominations of several current PDP governors.
“I cannot betray my friends because of politics,” he declared, insisting that his personal relationship with Wike had nothing to do with the party’s internal wrangling. He also rejected claims that the PDP should merge with other parties, arguing that it remained a dominant force in Nigerian politics.
