Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, has commended Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, for what he described as an “impressive” five years in office, highlighted by transformative infrastructure projects across the state.
Fintiri gave the commendation on Wednesday while inaugurating a dual carriageway and newly built Commissioners Quarters in the New Yenagoa City as part of activities marking Governor Diri’s fifth anniversary in office.
The Adamawa governor praised his counterpart for delivering on his promises, noting that Diri’s leadership has not only improved lives in Bayelsa but has also earned the admiration of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“Anyone who provides infrastructure does so for the greatest number of the people,” Fintiri said. “Senator Diri has etched his name as a governor doing wonders in Bayelsa and has built strong bonds within the PDP family and beyond.”
He hailed the rapid development taking place in Yenagoa, observing the remarkable transformation the city has undergone within just a few years.
“This progress is even more commendable given the challenging terrain of Bayelsa,” Fintiri added. “It takes a large-hearted leader to deliver these kinds of projects. You have made your people proud, your party proud, and your friends proud.”
In his remarks, Governor Diri appreciated residents of Onopa and Amarata communities for their support and peaceful cooperation, which he said were crucial to the successful execution of the projects.
He also stressed the importance of urban planning in the growth of Yenagoa, pledging to extend the newly commissioned road to connect with the Tombia airport road by the end of the year.
Diri expressed gratitude to Fintiri for his solidarity and consistent support for the Niger Delta’s push for equitable resource allocation.
Also speaking at the event, Bayelsa’s Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Perepuighe Biewari, said the new Commissioners Quarters project, featuring 40 five-bedroom duplexes, marked the start of increased development in the New Yenagoa City area, with potential to attract more investments and drive economic growth.
His counterpart in Works and Infrastructure, Moses Teibowei, highlighted the strategic significance of the newly completed 2.1-kilometre dual carriageway, noting that it would enhance vehicular movement, boost security operations, and improve the overall aesthetics of the city.
“These are the kinds of projects that make cities thrive,” Teibowei said.
