The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has described the emergence of Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State as a manifestation of divine providence, emphasizing that true leadership is ordained by God rather than man.

Responding to a recent statement by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, HURIWA highlighted Governor Fubara’s humble disposition and lack of political ambition, underscoring these traits as evidence of his divine selection to lead and elevate Rivers State.

During a New Year’s banquet attended by prominent dignitaries, Wike revealed that Fubara did not actively campaign for the governorship position nor purchase a nomination form. Instead, he was handpicked and assured of victory.

In a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, HURIWA noted that while some might interpret Wike’s remarks as self-serving, they point to a higher truth. “Governor Fubara’s rise reflects God’s will, serving as a clear indication that his leadership is destined to bring transformative progress to Rivers State,” the statement said.

The association further emphasized that Fubara’s journey, devoid of personal ambition, epitomizes divine orchestration. “History is filled with examples of leaders chosen by God who achieved remarkable feats through humility and a sense of divine purpose. Governor Fubara’s ascension mirrors this pattern, marking him as a vessel for unlocking Rivers State’s full potential,” HURIWA added.

The group also praised Fubara’s humility, quiet demeanor, and commitment to service, stressing that his leadership aims at the prosperity of Rivers State and its people rather than personal gain.

HURIWA urged stakeholders to respect the office of the governor and recognize the divine intent behind Fubara’s leadership. It also called for unity and forgiveness among all citizens, including those who may feel sidelined, for the greater good of Rivers State.

“Grudges and rivalries only serve to hinder progress and detract from a shared vision for a better future,” the association warned.
