Spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, Ima Niboro, has urged FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and APC governors to end their public exchanges and focus on grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 election.
Niboro made the call on Wednesday during an appearance on Arise Television’s The Morning Show, describing the disagreement between Wike and the governors as a “quarrel among siblings.”
His comments came amid a dispute over Wike’s proposed Rainbow Coalition, which he has presented as a platform for mobilising support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election.
The APC Progressive Governors’ Forum, led by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, had rejected political arrangements that it said could weaken the APC or affect the party’s candidates in the 2027 elections. The governors maintained that their commitment remained with APC candidates at all levels.
Wike subsequently criticised the governors, describing them as “politically lazy” and questioning their political records. He has maintained that his support for Tinubu does not mean other political parties must abandon their candidates in governorship and legislative elections.
Reacting to the ongoing exchanges, Niboro called on both sides to move away from television appearances and public arguments and instead engage voters directly.
“When I said tone down the rhetoric, I do not mean stop working. Stop talking, go and work,” he said.
Niboro urged the politicians to strengthen their political structures and establish their influence within their respective constituencies.
“All this shouting is not taking anybody anywhere. Go and work. Go and establish your authority on your political base,” he said.
He further urged them to engage voters directly, saying: “Get on the TV cameras. Go to the people. Go to the streets. Go to the marketplaces. Go and win the people.”
Niboro stressed that his position was not that either Wike or the governors should surrender their political interests, but that they should demonstrate their influence through grassroots mobilisation rather than continued public exchanges.
“If you’re a political leader, stop talking. Go and work. That is my point,” he said.
