The presidency has waded into Peter Obi’s latest party exit, with Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, delivering a stinging rebuke of the former Labour Party presidential candidate over his decision to leave the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a terse post on X, Onanuga described Obi as a “political nomad” and “a politician made of jelly,” dismissing the heartfelt statement Obi issued earlier on Sunday as “puerile reasons” wrapped in “illogical musings” — nothing more, he said, than “a self-serving letter to his mob.”

Onanuga went further, offering his own explanation for Obi’s exit — one that strips away the emotional framing of Obi’s statement entirely. According to the presidential aide, Obi left simply because he could not stomach a contest for the ADC’s presidential ticket against two political heavyweights: former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi.
