The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) over the recent passage of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill by the National Assembly.
Reacting to the development, the party’s spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, accused the APC of actions capable of undermining Nigeria’s democratic process.
In a statement shared on his X account, Abdullahi described the level of impunity being displayed by the ruling party as disturbing, warning that it must not be allowed to threaten the nation’s democracy.
He alleged that despite controlling the majority of state governors across the country, the APC still appeared apprehensive about conducting elections that are truly free and fair.
According to him, Nigerians would not tolerate tyranny, noting that the country has faced similar challenges in the past.
“With this level of impunity, we pray that the APC does not become the death of our democracy,” Abdullahi said.
“Almost all the governors are in their party, yet they are afraid of a free and fair election. But Nigerians will never surrender to tyranny. We have seen this before.”
