Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has voiced his disapproval regarding reports of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s potential defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He characterized any such move as a betrayal, especially in light of their efforts to reclaim Kano from the APC.
Kwankwaso mentioned that there had been plans for a defection that were reportedly postponed, urging supporters to pray for those involved and to advise them against making the leap. He warned that if the defection proceeds, it could lead to public perceptions that favor former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje over the current leadership, despite Ganduje’s previous controversies.
He expressed deep disappointment that the sacrifices made to restore governance in Kano would be countered by handing power back to the APC without contest. Despite the ongoing speculation, Kwankwaso remains hopeful that the governor and others will rethink their plans and recognize their value within the NNPP.
