The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to clarify the reasons behind the abrupt removal of Nigeria’s service chiefs. The party expressed concerns over the implications of this shake-up for government transparency and stability, especially amid rumors of an attempted coup.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC acknowledged the President’s authority to make such changes but emphasized the need for openness given the current political climate. They criticized the government’s handling of the situation as confusing and evasive, insisting that Nigerians deserve clear communication.
The ADC pointed out that many of the dismissed service chiefs were recently appointed, highlighting that such a significant shift in military leadership could not occur without serious underlying reasons. The party also expressed concern over the worsening insecurity in Nigeria, suggesting that the government’s focus appears more on political maneuvering than on safeguarding citizens’ lives.
