The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has demolished 11 duplexes in the Dutse District of Abuja due to their construction beneath high-tension wires and along a stream channel. The operation, led by Muktar Galadima, Director of Development Control, occurred after the developer ignored multiple notices to halt construction.
Galadima explained that while the plots were statutorily allocated, the necessary building plan approvals were declined due to safety concerns. Despite ongoing warnings from the FCTA, the developer proceeded with construction, prompting the demolition.
The FCTA plans to provide an alternative plot for the developer, emphasizing the importance of adhering to development regulations. Galadima also mentioned potential new legislation that would impose fines on developers who violate land use laws, reiterating that no compensation will be offered since the buildings lacked the required approvals.
