Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has dismissed allegations made by Omoyele Sowore regarding billions spent on Boko Haram reintegration and the unlawful detention of #EndBadGovernance protesters, labeling them as “pure imagination.”
Sowore, the African Action Congress presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, accused Zulum of operating a torture chamber known as “The Crack FC” in Maiduguri, where he allegedly kept protesters for over a year. He claimed, “The heartless Governor of Borno… maintains a torture chamber… where he kept his #EndBadGovernance victims for more than a year! WICKED!”
Additionally, Sowore alleged that Zulum jailed minors for their involvement in the protests while allocating billions to Boko Haram “repentees,” calling this both unlawful and shameful.
In a response, Zulum’s Senior Technical Assistant on Print and Digital Communications, Abdulrahman Bundi, dismissed Sowore’s claims as baseless. “These are just pure imaginations. There is nothing like that existing,” he stated, emphasizing that the protests are directed at the federal government, not the state government.
Regarding the alleged spending on Boko Haram rehabilitation, Bundi clarified that the Deradicalisation, Rehabilitation, and Reintegration (DRR) program is a multi-stakeholder initiative aimed at assisting victims of the insurgency, not just Boko Haram members. He urged the public to access the DRR policy document online for clarity.
“The DRR document is public. People should read it and understand what it contains,” he added.
