Young Progressives Party Expels Lawmaker for Supporting Soludo

The Young Progressives Party (YPP) has expelled Peter Uzokwe, the lawmaker representing Nnewi North, Nnewi South, and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency, over alleged anti-party activities and gross misconduct. The announcement was made by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Martins Egbeola, following an emergency meeting of the National Working Committee.

This decision follows the emergence of a viral video in which Uzokwe openly endorsed the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Governor Chukwuma Soludo ahead of the upcoming governorship election in Anambra State. In the video, he claimed, “YPP is not contesting any election” and urged his supporters to support Soludo.

The YPP leadership condemned Uzokwe’s statements as misleading and a deliberate sabotage attempt against the party. Egbeola stated that the National Working Committee ratified his expulsion for gross misconduct, citing several petitions and evidence of anti-party activities.

He clarified that Uzokwe’s claim of leadership in YPP was unfounded, as that position has remained vacant since the death of the late national leader, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah. The party urged members to disregard Uzokwe’s comments and reaffirm their loyalty to YPP, labeling his actions as gross indiscipline and an attempt to deceive the public.

Founded in 2017, YPP gained prominence after Senator Ifeanyi Ubah became its first major officeholder in 2019.
