Former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has distanced himself from claims suggesting he is eyeing the presidency in 2027, reaffirming his loyalty and support for President Bola Tinubu’s second-term bid.
Bello, through a statement issued on Friday by his Media Director, Michael Ohiare, dismissed a recently circulated video of his 2022 rally as misleading and mischievous. The video, according to him, is being wrongly circulated to imply he is campaigning against President Tinubu.
“Our principal, Bello, has no 2027 presidential ambition,” the statement emphasized. “He remains fully committed to the re-election of President Tinubu, who has shown exceptional leadership despite global economic headwinds.”
Ohiare criticized the video’s promoters as “witless mischief makers” bent on causing division and discrediting Bello. He pointed out that the rally footage is clearly dated 2022, and its repackaging is a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.
“This isn’t the first time enemies of progress have tried to pit Bello against the President,” Ohiare added. “But their falsehoods have always collapsed under scrutiny.”
He warned Nigerians to be wary of orchestrated attempts to stoke crisis where none exists, describing the viral post as part of a “desperate campaign” to damage Bello’s image.
The statement concluded with a call for vigilance against political propaganda and reaffirmed Bello’s unwavering support for Tinubu’s administration and 2027 project.
