A yet-to-be-identified woman has been reported dead after leaping into the lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State. The tragic event took place on Thursday around 4:00 PM, close to the University of Lagos waterfront.
According to a statement from Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, the Marine Police present in the vicinity responded quickly to the incident. The woman’s body was later recovered at the UNILAG shore slipway, and medical personnel from the University of Lagos confirmed her death in the presence of police officers from the Sabo division.
Hundeyin mentioned that the body has been sent to the Infectious Disease Hospital Mortuary in Yaba for preservation. The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding her death.
This incident raises concerns about mental health and public safety in busy areas such as the Third Mainland Bridge, which has previously seen similar tragic events.
Authorities are encouraging anyone with relevant information regarding the incident or the deceased to come forward as investigations continue.
