The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has cautioned that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) risks self-destruction if it attempts to reintegrate former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi. Speaking during a media chat, Wike emphasized that the PDP has not learned from its past mistakes, particularly those that led to its poor performance in the 2023 general elections.

Wike recalled his warnings to party leaders about the dangers of having both the presidential candidate and the national chairman from the North, which he described as politically unjust and suicidal. He accused the PDP of “stealing” both leadership positions, arguing that this contributed significantly to the party’s electoral losses.

He insisted that the presidency must rotate back to the South to ensure equity and political stability. Wike dismissed discussions about Obi’s possible return to the PDP, labeling it as dangerous and hypocritical, given Obi’s previous criticisms of the party.

Wike stated, “If you want to destroy this party, dare it—bring Obi.” He maintained that bringing Obi back would further undermine the party’s credibility and ideological foundation, asserting that equity and zoning are essential for the PDP to regain national relevance.
