Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, announced on Thursday night that the political conflict with Governor Siminalayi Fubara has been resolved. This agreement followed a peace meeting facilitated by President Bola Tinubu in Abuja.

After the closed-door meeting, Wike told reporters that both sides had reached an agreement to end hostilities and collaborate moving forward. “We have all agreed to work together, and the governor has also committed to this. We are part of the same political family,” he stated.

Wike acknowledged that the crisis had persisted for months but described the agreement as definitive. He urged calm among political supporters, emphasizing that there is no longer any animosity.

Governor Fubara supported Wike’s statement, calling the agreement a significant moment for Rivers State. He stressed the importance of peace for the state’s development and pledged to uphold the unity achieved during the meeting.

The tensions between Wike and Fubara began shortly after Fubara took office in May 2023, escalating into a governance crisis. In December 2023, President Tinubu intervened, but the conflict resurfaced, leading to a state of emergency in March 2025.

Both leaders now aim to maintain the peace established during this recent meeting.
