Troops from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Wukari, part of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have apprehended a notorious bandit leader believed to be behind numerous kidnappings and armed robberies along the Benue-Taraba corridor.
The arrest took place on December 21 during an intelligence-driven operation in Vaase Community, located in the Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State. The suspect, identified as Fidelis Gayama, was already on the radar of security agencies and is linked to Dogo, another sought-after armed group leader.
Preliminary investigations indicated that Gayama is the ringleader of a criminal syndicate terrorizing travelers and communities along key routes in the region. Verification by police personnel confirmed that he was among those declared wanted by local authorities.
Currently in military custody, the suspect will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for thorough investigation and prosecution as per existing laws. The Commander of the 6 Brigade commended the troops for their professionalism in the operation, calling the arrest a significant setback for local criminal organizations.
He urged the public to continue providing reliable information to assist security efforts in the area, emphasizing the brigade’s commitment to preserving safety and security for all residents.
