The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that a power transmission tower has collapsed in the Rigasa Community, disrupting electricity supply to Kaduna South. The incident occurred on September 18, 2025, due to severe weather conditions, including heavy rainfall and windstorms, compounded by vandalism of the tower’s structural components.
According to TCN, inspections revealed that some parts of Tower No. 7 along the Kaduna Town Line I and II had been stolen by vandals, making the structure vulnerable to collapse. This event has affected bulk power transmission to various load centers of the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO), particularly in Kaduna South.
To mitigate the impact of the outage, TCN has instructed KAEDCO to connect its 33kV Mogadishu feeder with the 33kV Abakwa feeder, allowing power to be rerouted to customers in the Mogadishu area. However, areas such as Kinkinau, Yan Tukwane, Kabala West, Unguwan Muazu, and Kaduna North are still receiving normal electricity supply.
TCN engineers are currently on-site, dismantling the collapsed tower and preparing to erect a new one. The company has apologized to affected customers and assured them that efforts are being made to restore power as quickly as possible.
