Minister of Works, David Umahi, has called on the Igbo people worldwide to abandon their agitations for a separate Biafran nation. He argues that the administration of President Bola Tinubu has effectively addressed long-standing grievances through policies of inclusion and integration.

During an inspection tour of ongoing mega projects on the Enugu–Anambra Road, Umahi stated that the Tinubu administration is providing the Ndigbo with opportunities they have sought for decades—achieved not through secession, but through unprecedented inclusion in national governance and development.

He explained that the previous push for Biafra was rooted in feelings of neglect and underrepresentation at the federal level, but asserted that this narrative has shifted under Tinubu’s leadership. “When a people are fully integrated, respected, and empowered within the nation, the dream they once chased through agitation has already been achieved through cooperation,” Umahi said.

The minister noted that the South-East has received its fair share of national appointments, citing his own role alongside other Igbo individuals in significant positions within the current administration. He pointed out that substantial infrastructure projects are now emerging across all five states in the South-East, many of which were previously deemed unattainable.

Umahi emphasized that the quest for Biafra was never about tearing Nigeria apart, but rather about ensuring that the Igbo people are counted within the national framework. “Through inclusion, equity, and concrete development, Ndigbo are no longer spectators in the Nigerian project; they are co-authors of its future,” he stated.

He reiterated the need for the South-East to support President Tinubu, highlighting his commitment to the region through substantial investments in infrastructure. Umahi recalled that during a previous project inspection, he asserted that the Tinubu administration had “remembered the South-East” and deserved overwhelming backing.
