President Bola Tinubu On Tuesday night, met with the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) amid plans by organized labor to stage a nationwide protest over unresolved demands. The meeting took place at the State House, Abuja, in response to escalating tensions between the Federal Government and labor unions regarding workers’ welfare, the rising cost of living, and the implementation of previously agreed concessions.

The Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the meeting, stating that key stakeholders were present. Attendees included the chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Hope Uzodimma, alongside governors from Edo and Kebbi states, Monday Okpebholo and Dr. Nasir Idris, respectively, as well as the Minister of State for Labour, Honourable Nkeiruka Onyejeocha.

The NLC, led by its national leaders, has recently threatened mass protests nationwide, citing the Federal Government’s failure to address critical issues, such as economic reforms and wage-related concerns. Organized labor has accused the government of delaying the implementation of agreements reached in prior engagements, warning that a lack of decisive action could lead to industrial unrest and protests across major cities.

As of now, neither the Federal Government nor the NLC has released details regarding the discussions or the outcomes of the meeting. Given the current climate, many are closely watching for any developments that may emerge from this crucial dialogue.
