President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, on Wednesday to address the recent spate of violent attacks that have rocked the state, particularly in Guma Local Government Area, where over 100 residents were reportedly killed by suspected criminal elements in recent days.

Touching down at the Tactical Air Command of the Nigerian Air Force Base in Makurdi at approximately 12:58 p.m., the President’s visit follows mounting public outrage over the rising insecurity in the region.

To honour the visit, the Benue State Government declared a public holiday, enabling residents and stakeholders to engage with the President’s mission of restoring peace.

In a statement earlier this week, Presidential Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said Tinubu’s visit was intended to “assess firsthand the recurring crisis that has claimed numerous lives and caused significant destruction.”

During his stay, the President is scheduled to meet with traditional rulers, political leaders, religious figures, community heads, and youth organisations to deliberate on practical and sustainable solutions to the violence.

President Tinubu had earlier condemned the killings and urged all parties to embrace peace, love, and unity. He also extended condolences to families affected by the tragedy and reassured them of his administration’s commitment to ending the bloodshed.

Meanwhile, Tinubu’s planned visit to Kaduna State for the commissioning of state projects has been postponed by a day and will now take place on Thursday, June 19, 2025.
