Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has prohibited the use of loudspeakers for preaching in public spaces, particularly in markets, citing concerns over noise pollution. Offenders will face a fine of ₦500,000.
In a viral video circulating on social media, Soludo was seen confronting a street preacher at a market, warning him against disrupting traders with his message. He advised that religious activities should be conducted within churches or rented open spaces where interested individuals could voluntarily participate.
Speaking to traders at Ochanja Market in Onitsha, the governor emphasized that marketplaces are meant for business, not religious gatherings. He reiterated that the government would not tolerate the use of public spaces for unauthorized religious activities, adding that a crackdown on fake pastors and prophets was underway in the state.
