The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has condemned what it calls a coordinated smear campaign aimed at tarnishing the image of Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior. APC spokesperson Darlington Nwauju described the recent allegations circulating on social media as a desperate attempt by politicians to distract a capable public servant.
Nwauju specifically addressed the claims made by a group known as Concerned Nigerians in the Diaspora United Kingdom (CND-UK), which has called for Tunji-Ojo’s suspension over long-resolved issues. He emphasized that the attempts to revive the controversy surrounding the Minister’s NYSC certificate are unfounded, asserting that there was no forgery involved.
He challenged the accusers to a public debate about the Minister’s performance, highlighting Tunji-Ojo’s significant achievements, including reforms in paramilitary agencies, personnel welfare improvements, and streamlined passport services.
Nwauju concluded that the ongoing attacks are futile and reflect a lack of creativity from those attempting to undermine Tunji-Ojo’s credentials, insisting that the Minister’s record of service cannot be overshadowed by discredited allegations.
