Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to represent Nigeria at the second United Nations (UN) Food Systems Summit, taking place from July 27 to 29, 2025.
At this high-level event, Shettima will join global leaders to advance the transformation of the coffee value chain and engage in roundtables aimed at enhancing Nigeria’s food security initiatives. The summit aims to reflect on the progress made since the inaugural 2021 UN Food Systems Summit and to accelerate commitments toward building resilient and sustainable food systems.
In addition to the main summit events, the Vice President will participate in ministerial roundtables focused on public finance, trade, and responsible investment, as well as networking sessions designed to promote knowledge exchange and partnership.
During a recent briefing, Shettima outlined three key objectives for Nigeria’s delegation: positioning Nigeria as a leader on African food systems reform, leveraging international partnerships aligned with domestic priorities, and advancing a private sector-led model for continental food transformation.
The summit is organized in collaboration with the United Nations and the governments of Ethiopia and Italy. Shettima is expected to return to Nigeria following his participation in the summit activities.
