In a renewed effort to bolster Nigeria’s foreign relations and support its citizens serving abroad, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, in the company of the Senate Committee Chairman on Foreign Affairs, Senator Abubakar Sani Bello, and the Clerk of the Committee, embarked on a diplomatic mission to Kigali, the capital of Rwanda.

The Nigerian delegation was warmly received at the Nigerian High Commission in Kigali by the Chargé d’Affaires, Ambassador Ibrahim Zanna, and members of his diplomatic team. The visit underscored the commitment of the Nigerian Senate to engage directly with diplomatic missions abroad, assess their operations, and ensure that Nigeria’s interests and citizens are well represented on the global stage.

During the engagement, productive discussions were held concerning Nigeria-Rwanda bilateral relations, regional cooperation, and the welfare of Nigerians living and working in Rwanda. Ambassador Zanna highlighted the mission’s efforts in deepening economic and cultural ties between both nations, while also addressing the challenges faced in the course of diplomatic work.

Following the meeting at the High Commission, the delegation proceeded to meet with Nigerian Volunteers serving in Rwanda under the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (TAC) scheme. The volunteers, who are playing vital roles in education, health, and other sectors of Rwandan society, shared their experiences and impact stories with the visiting senators.

Senator Kalu expressed his admiration and gratitude for the selfless contributions of the TAC volunteers, describing them as “true ambassadors of Nigeria’s goodwill and technical expertise across Africa.” He assured them of the government’s continued support and emphasized the importance of the Technical Aid Corps as a strategic instrument of Nigeria’s foreign policy and Pan-African solidarity.

This visit not only reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to international cooperation but also highlighted the Senate’s dedication to ensuring that the country’s foreign missions and overseas initiatives function effectively and in line with national interests.

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu reiterated the importance of diplomacy, service, and regional unity, stating that Africa’s development lies in the strength of its partnerships and the courage of its people to serve beyond borders.
