The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed former Senate President Bukola Saraki to lead a seven-member reconciliation committee aimed at mending internal divisions within the party. The appointment was announced by Bauchi State Governor and PDP Governors Forum Chairman, Bala Mohammed, following a meeting with serving and former PDP governors in Abuja on Sunday night, May 11, 2025.
The committee’s mandate is to resolve grievances among party members ahead of the crucial National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for May 27 and the national convention set for August.
Mohammed emphasized that the meeting focused on fostering unity and addressing internal conflicts, litigation, and misunderstandings. While acknowledging some defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), including that of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, he asserted that these challenges were strengthening the party’s resolve rather than weakening it.
Alongside Saraki, the committee includes Governors Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Caleb Muftwang (Plateau), and Peter Mba (Enugu), as well as Senators Seriake Dickson, Ibrahim Dankwambo, and former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.
Present at the meeting were several PDP governors, ex-governors, and National Working Committee members, including acting National Chairman Umar Damagum and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. Mohammed reassured supporters that the PDP remains united and focused on rebuilding and reclaiming its influence nationwide.
