As Nigeria marks Workers’ Day, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd), the Administrator of Rivers State, has pledged unwavering support for the welfare of the state’s workforce, emphasizing that their resilience is central to progress.
In a statewide broadcast from Port Harcourt on Thursday, Ibas expressed deep appreciation for the contributions of workers across sectors. “Your dedication, even in tough times, is the backbone of our development,” he said, commending both their patriotism and perseverance.
The retired naval chief outlined several initiatives already in place to support workers, including prompt salary and pension payments, conflict resolution on wage disputes, and the enforcement of the national minimum wage across both state and local government levels.
Looking ahead, Ibas announced plans to review the contributory pension scheme to address lingering concerns about funding shortfalls and fairness. He also unveiled a new leadership training program set to begin within two weeks, aimed at building capacity and enhancing professionalism among civil servants.
“Workers are not just the engine of our economy they are also the bridge between citizens and government,” Ibas noted. He assured state employees that improving their conditions remains a cornerstone of his administration.
