The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru, has challenged Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike to resign from his ministerial position and concentrate on his ongoing political ambitions in Rivers State. Basiru, unfazed by what he described as veiled threats from Wike, emphasized his political resilience during an interview.
Basiru voiced his support for Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara amidst escalating tensions between him and Wike, cautioning the South-South APC Chairman, Victor Giadom, against derogatory comments about Fubara. Wike, during a visit to Oyigbo Local Government Area, warned Basiru to stay out of Rivers politics, implying that external voices should not challenge the state’s affairs.
In response, Basiru asserted that he has the authority as the party’s national secretary to oversee APC activities nationwide and criticized Wike for interfering in matters concerning a party to which he does not belong. He clarified that Wike’s insinuations regarding his interest in Rivers State’s funds were baseless, affirming his commitment to integrity and public service.
