The Presidency has called on Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, to concentrate on addressing the challenges in his state rather than engaging in “irresponsible politics” over the Tax Reforms Bill.
The statement, issued by President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Mr. Sunday Dare, criticized the governor’s recent comments attacking the administration over its economic policies.
Governor Mohammed had voiced his frustration over the impact of the Federal Government’s tax reforms, claiming that they were causing hardship, particularly in the northern region. He also expressed dissatisfaction with President Tinubu, accusing him of not listening to the concerns of the people and governors.
In response, the Presidency urged Governor Mohammed to focus on the problems facing his state and work to improve the welfare of the people of Bauchi, who continue to rank among the most impoverished in Nigeria. The statement emphasized that the governor should prioritize his responsibilities to his state instead of using the national political stage for personal gain.
The Presidency also defended President Tinubu’s leadership, stating that he remains focused on revamping the national economy and addressing the challenges facing Nigerians. It urged anyone with concerns about the tax reforms to utilize the proper legislative channels rather than resort to public attacks.
Dare further criticized the governor for engaging in “irresponsible politics,” noting that Governor Mohammed has a greater responsibility to the people of Bauchi. He also pointed out that President Tinubu, who was elected by Nigerians, has a four-year mandate to deliver on his promises, and the public should focus on how the governor is addressing the issues in his state.
