The Presidency has responded to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s recent criticisms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, asserting that only those who “play blind” would fail to recognize the government’s accomplishments over the past two years.

In a statement, Atiku accused the current administration of exacerbating poverty and engaging in wasteful public spending. However, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, countered that such sweeping critiques are more driven by personal animosity than objective analysis.

Onanuga emphasized the administration’s progress, noting a decrease in inflation, an increase in food production, and a surge in foreign investments. He stated, “The reforms have stabilized government finances and curbed systemic corruption, enabling direct investments into social programs and infrastructure.”

Highlighting the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of the foreign exchange system, Onanuga pointed out that these measures were acknowledged as necessary by previous administrations but had not been implemented. He stated that the Tinubu administration has laid the groundwork for long-term, inclusive growth.

Additionally, Onanuga refuted Atiku’s claims regarding education accessibility for the poor, citing the introduction of a Student Loan Scheme that has benefited over 600,000 Nigerian students.

In addressing the opposition, Onanuga urged constructive criticism and suggested that Atiku should provide alternative solutions instead of mere partisan rhetoric.
