The Presidency has formally apologized after mistakenly including two living Nigerian figures, Pa Reuben Fasoranti and Dr. Edwin Madunagu, in the Posthumous Honours category during President Bola Tinubu’s Democracy Day address at the National Assembly.

This error, which quickly attracted public attention and confusion, occurred during the President’s televised speech honoring various pro-democracy activists and national figures for their contributions to Nigeria’s democratic return.

In a statement issued shortly after, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, acknowledged the mistake and indicated that corrections are being made across all State House platforms.

“Pa Reuben Fasoranti, the Afenifere leader, and Dr. Edwin Madunagu were incorrectly listed under the Posthumous Award category. Both individuals are alive and should not have been included,” Onanuga stated.

He described the incident as “an oversight” and assured the public that the necessary updates would be made to accurately reflect the honorees’ status.

“We sincerely regret this oversight and will ensure the corrections are implemented across all State House digital platforms,” the statement concluded.
