The Nigerian Bar Association Section on Public Interest and Development Law (NBA-SPIDEL) and the Nigeria Police have agreed to form a committee to review the tinted permit policy. This decision was announced by Prof. Paul Ananaba, Chairman of NBA-SPIDEL, during an interactive session in Ikeja ahead of the NBA-SPIDEL Annual Conference.
The review aims to ensure alignment with public interest and national security objectives. Ananaba stated that this initiative follows weeks of discussions prompted by concerns from the public regarding the harassment of motorists due to non-compliance with tinted window regulations.
The committee will consist of representatives from both NBA-SPIDEL and the Nigeria Police, tasked with examining the legal and security implications of the tinted permit policy and recommending new regulatory measures.
Ananaba emphasized that the engagement with the police is not confrontational but aimed at promoting accountability and justice. He also mentioned that NBA-SPIDEL has filed a lawsuit against the police concerning alleged discrimination in the enforcement of the tinted permit directive.
