The Abia State Police Command has launched an investigation into the fatal attack on community leader Mr. Igwe Akwu in the Okon-Aku Community, Ohafia Local Government Area, which occurred last Friday.
In a statement released on January 5, 2026, DSP Maureen Chinaka, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed that law enforcement officials have restored normalcy to the area and arrested several suspects linked to the incident.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, promptly dispatched officers from the Ohafia Divisional Headquarters and two tactical teams to maintain order following the distressing event. The statement noted, “Four injured victims were rushed to the hospital and are currently recovering, while one death was confirmed.”
Community members are urged to foster peace and avoid further escalation. The police are actively interrogating the arrested suspects and plan to bring them to court upon completion of the investigation.
The Council of Ohafia Monarchs has condemned the violence that led to Akwu’s death, calling for an end to hostilities between conflicting groups within the community. The Council’s statement emphasized that there was no justification for the murder and urged parties involved to seek peaceful resolutions.
The police encourage citizens to report any suspicious activities by contacting the nearest police station or using the Command’s emergency hotlines.
