Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has announced that the ruling party is anticipating the defection of additional governors from opposition parties as the 2027 general elections draw nearer. This statement was made during a formal reception for defectors from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State, led by Senator Kawu Ismailia.

Ganduje expressed confidence in the APC’s ability to win all upcoming elections, declaring the party’s success in 2027 as “a done deal.” He emphasized the party’s support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms and the Renewed Hope Agenda, which he believes will attract more followers.

Among the recent defectors are notable figures such as Hon. Kabiru Alhasan Rurmum, who represents Rano/Kibiya in the House of Representatives, and several former commissioners and members of the Kano State Assembly.

In his remarks to journalists following a closed-door meeting with the new members, Ganduje highlighted the APC’s strategic approach to expanding its base through advocacy and dialogue. He pointed out that the recent influx of members, including the defection of Delta State’s governor and his cabinet, signifies the party’s growing influence.

Senator Kawu Ismailia, speaking on behalf of the new entrants, noted that their collective move to the APC reflects a union of like-minded individuals from the NNPP in Kano State. He referred to the results of previous elections to underscore the potential impact of their defection on the APC’s future electoral success.

Ganduje’s statements indicate a proactive strategy to solidify the APC’s position ahead of the 2027 elections, as the party prepares for increased competition in the political landscape.
