The Lagos State Police Command has declared activist Omoyele Sowore wanted for allegedly planning to incite public disorder and obstruct major roads in the state.

Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh announced this to journalists on Monday at the Iyana-Oworo section of the Third Mainland Bridge. He stated that the police are closing in on Sowore and others accused of coordinating activities aimed at disrupting public peace.

“Sowore should surrender at the nearest police station or face arrest wherever he may be found. Anyone attempting to cause disturbances or block our roads will face the full consequences of the law,” he said.

According to Jimoh, intelligence reports suggest that Sowore and his associates intended to stage protests at key locations, including the Third Mainland Bridge, Lekki Tollgate, and Freedom Park. He described the alleged plans as criminal and warned that such actions could lead to severe traffic congestion and pose risks to lives.

“It is only someone unfit for reason who would attempt to block such an essential route used daily by thousands,” he remarked.

The commissioner revealed that 13 suspects have already been arrested in connection with the planned protests, while Sowore reportedly fled. Investigations are ongoing to identify any sponsors and collaborators involved.

Jimoh indicated that police officers have been deployed across critical areas, particularly major bridges and highways, where roadblocks and diversions are currently in place. He emphasized that these measures are temporary and aimed at maintaining peace and protecting vital infrastructure.

“The Third Mainland Bridge was not designed to hold stationary weight, and any gathering on it could pose structural risks,” he warned.

He also addressed tensions related to recent demolitions in parts of Lagos, especially in the Oworo-Soki area, stating that eligible residents have already received compensation.

“The government has compensated those affected, and the media was present to witness it. There is no justification for provoking a crisis under the guise of protest,” he stated.

The commissioner urged Lagos residents to carry on with their daily activities without fear, assuring them that security agencies are fully deployed to maintain order.

“We are vigilant. We will apprehend, investigate, and prosecute anyone attempting to undermine public safety in Lagos,” he asserted.

Jimoh reaffirmed the command’s commitment to enforcing the law impartially, stressing that freedom of expression should not turn into public nuisance or risk lives.
