The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party aligned with Nyesom Wike has distanced itself from a recent meeting between a rival group within the party and leaders of the African Democratic Congress.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, said the meeting involving the Taminu Turaki-led faction was not authorised by the party.
He made it clear that the PDP has not held any formal or informal discussions with the ADC or its representatives, stressing that those who attended the meeting did so in their personal capacities.
Mohammed urged party members and the public to disregard claims suggesting any official engagement, describing such reports as baseless and not reflective of the party’s position.
He added that preparations for the PDP’s primaries were ongoing, assuring that timelines and guidelines would be communicated in due course. According to him, the party remains focused on strengthening its internal processes and providing credible leadership.
Earlier, the Turaki-led faction had visited a group within the ADC said to be aligned with David Mark, describing the meeting as a solidarity visit ahead of the 2027 elections.
The engagement, which lasted about two hours, reportedly centred on national issues and possible cooperation among political actors.
Several prominent figures were present, including former Minister of Information Jerry Gana, former Niger State governor Babangida Aliyu, and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.
Others in attendance included former governors Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Aminu Tambuwal, and Rotimi Amaechi.
Also present were ADC National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola and former Attorney-General Abubakar Malami, alongside other political stakeholders.
