Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party recently convened a meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo to strategize for the 2027 general elections. The factional Chairman, Alhaji Kabiru Turaki, led the delegation to Obasanjo’s residence at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The closed-door meeting lasted for 40 minutes and included prominent party members such as the Board of Trustees Chairman, Sen. Adolphus Wabara, and several former governors. After the meeting, National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong shared that Obasanjo had emphasized the necessity of maintaining discipline within the party to ensure its future success.
The discussions focused on the state of the nation and emphasized that discipline is foundational to effective party management. Ememobong noted that Obasanjo specifically stated that indiscipline could lead to failure.
Turaki expressed that the meeting aimed to garner Obasanjo’s support and guidance in the daunting task of unseating the All Progressives Congress in the upcoming elections. He acknowledged Obasanjo’s wisdom and experience as essential assets for their cause.
As the new leadership prepares, Turaki declared the PDP ready for the challenge ahead, emphasizing plans to reclaim power in Ekiti and Osun states as part of their strategy. The party aims to demonstrate its readiness to contest the elections and to restore its position within Nigeria’s democratic process.
Party officials reiterated the importance of unity and mobilization among members, expressing confidence that the PDP is on the rise to contest effectively against the ruling party. They forecast significant change in the 2027 elections, emphasizing that the opposition is prepared to hold the government accountable.
