The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has advised the party to ensure it conducts a reputable national convention, emphasizing that the outcome will help restore confidence in the party and bring back aggrieved members. The elective National Convention is scheduled for November 15th to 16th, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Senator Ahmed Makarfi, the secretary of the party’s BoT, spoke during the BoT meeting in Abuja, noting that members who left the party did so out of anger and that the convention’s outcome would determine whether they return. He urged party leaders to build on the recent stability of the party and send a strong message to Nigerians through the convention’s outcome.

The convention will serve to elect the next set of National Officers for the party. The National Executive Committee (NEC) has approved the schedule of activities and timetable for the convention. The National Chairman and National Secretary have been directed to officially inform the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the time, venue, and agenda of the convention.

Additionally, NEC approved the membership composition of the National Convention Committee and the National Convention Zoning Committee to ensure a successful and credible event. Makarfi emphasized the importance of party unity, urging leaders to distinguish between personal opinions and party opinions to maintain discipline.

Amb Illiya Damagum, the acting national chairman of the PDP, stated that the party has entered a new era following the founding fathers conference meeting. He indicated that the PDP is keeping the door open for those who left to return. The PDP has also zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to the South.

In his remarks, Damagum downplayed the significance of the opposition coalition being championed by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, describing it as an “ill-fated political experiment.” The PDP aims to present a united front and a credible platform for Nigerians, with the upcoming convention playing a crucial role in shaping the party’s future and its prospects for the 2027 elections.
