The Oyo State Government has justified its plan to spend ₦63.4 billion on overhauling the 70-year-old Government House. State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, stated that claims suggesting the renovation is unnecessary are misguided. He emphasized that the current administration is managing over 200 ongoing projects, including major infrastructure developments.

Oyelade highlighted the increase in the state’s Internally Generated Revenue from ₦1.5 billion to ₦7.8 billion in six years and noted the government’s commitment to worker welfare, including significant annual salary payments. He described the overhaul as essential, detailing that 21 structures, including the presidential lodge and banquet hall, will be reconstructed. The project will also include a helipad for VIP visitors.

Furthermore, Oyelade dismissed criticisms suggesting the funds could be better distributed among citizens, labeling such proposals as simplistic. He underscored the need for a fitting official residence for the state’s leadership as part of a legacy project.
